Unpaid university internships at INE

The INE believes that training in statistics is key in the preparation of future producers and users of statistics. It is therefore to this Institute’s benefit to use any and all tools available to promote knowledge. We would therefore like to give all public and private Universities the opportunity to collaborate through the university student external academic internship system, in the area of curricular internships.

These internships, which are regulated by RD 592/2014 of July 11, BOE July 30, 2014, aim to encourage the hiring of internship students in public administrations and in private companies, promoting employment of future professionals, fostering their capacity for entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, and responding to the commitment to economic transformation based on the knowledge society.

  • Information for Universities

    • Important: In order to carry out an internship with the INE, each University must appoint an internship office or Coordinator to manage internships and act as an intermediary between the student and the INE.

The student should never contact the INE directly.

      • The call is open, meaning that any interested university may write, at any time of the year, to the email escuelaestadistica@ine.es to express interest. The collaboration will be formalised using the INE'sstandard agreement.
      • Spots will be assigned strictly in the order of requests received. If there is more demand than the supply of placements that can be provided by the INE, attendance will be limited to two students from each university. If, due to special circumstances, certain INE units are unable to provide tutoring, it may even be impossible to carry out an internship.
      • Internships are unpaid and will not entail any expense for the INE.
      • The internships that will be offered are curricular.
      • Internships can be carried out at both the INE’s central services offices (in Madrid) and in each of its Delegations, based in each provincial capital.
      • Internships are aimed at students pursuing studies related to the INE's activities. These would include, among others, statistics, economics and the like, mathematics, information technology, telecommunications, journalism, and law.
      • Students must prove that they are protected by school insurance and likewise, the University will certify that the student is covered by civil liability insurance, charged to the University.
