Non-hotel Tourist Accommodation Occupancy Survey

July 2026. Provisional data

Main results

  • Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation rose by 0.9% in July compared to the same month in 2025.
  • Overnight stays at campsites rose by 1.2%, rural tourism ones increased by 3.9% and ones at hostels went up by 2.2%. Those in apartments remained stable.
  • The Tourist Apartment Price Index (TAPI) increased by 6.2% in July, compared to the same month of 2025, the Tourist Campsite Price Index (TCPI) by 6.3%, and the Rural Tourism Price Index (RTPI) by 1.5%.

Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation (apartments, campsites, rural tourism accommodation and hostels) exceeded 22.5 million in July, with an increase of 0.9% compared to the same month last year.

Overnight stays by residents increased by 4.2%, while those by non-residents fell by 2.2%. The average stay was 4.5 overnight stays per traveller.

Apartments

Overnight stays in holiday apartments did not vary in July, as compared with the same month of 2025. Those by residents increased by 3.8%, while those by non-residents fell by 2.2%.

The average stay decreased by 7.3%, to 4.8 overnight stays per traveller.

In July, 52.3% of the places offered were occupied, 3.8% more than in the same month of 2025. The occupancy rate by bed-places at the weekend was 54.8%, 2.1% more.

Non-resident travellers accounted for 62.2% of overnight stays. The United Kingdom was the main market of origin, with 30.1% of the total.

Canarias was the preferred destination for apartments, with more than 2.5 million overnight stays and a fall of 4.4% compared to July 2025. Illes Balears had the highest occupancy, with 83.3% of the apartments offered.

By tourist areas, Costa Blanca was the preferred destination, with more than 1.2 million overnight stays. Mallorca recorded the highest occupancy rate at 87.6%. The tourist spots with the highest number of overnight stays were San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Benidorm and Mogán.

Campsites

Overnight stays at campsites increased by 1.2% in July compared with the same month of 2025. Overnight stays by residents increased by 3.8%, while those by non-residents fell by 2.4%.

In July, 55.1% of the plots on offer were occupied, an increase of 2.7% in annual rate. The weekend occupancy rate reached 57.1%, an increase of 2.0%. Those by non-resident travellers accounted for 41.1% of overnight stays. The Netherlands was the main market of origin, with 36.6% of the total.

Cataluña was the preferred destination for campsites, with over 4.5 million overnight stays and a decrease of 1.3% in the annual rate. La Rioja achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 72.4% of the sites offered.

By tourist area, the Costa Brava was the preferred destination, with more than 2.2 million overnight stays. The Costa Blanca had the highest occupancy rate, with 71.1%. The tourist sites with most overnight stays were Torroella de Montgrí, Calonge and Benidorm.

Rural tourism accommodation

Overnight stays in rural tourist accommodation rose by 3.9% in July compared with the same month of 2025. Resident overnight stays grew by 4.6%, and those of non-residents by 2.7%.

33.0% of the bedplaces were occupied, 3.3% more than in July 2025. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 43.2%, with a year-on-year decrease of 4.9%.

Illes Balears was the preferred destination, with more than 265,000 overnight stays, 5.7% more than in July 2025. It also recorded the highest occupancy rate, with 69.0%.

By tourist areas, the Island of Mallorca was the preferred destination, with over 204,000 overnight stays. It also reached the highest occupancy rate, with 69.3% of the bed-places offered.

Hostels

Overnight stays at hostels rose by 2.2% in July. Those by residents rose by 7.8%, while those of non-residents dropped by 7.5%.

45.2% of the bedplaces were occupied, 2.7% more than in July 2025. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 46.0%, with a year-on-year decrease of 7.3%.

Galicia was the preferred destination, with more than 151,000 overnight stays. Región de Murcia recorded the highest occupancy rate, with 71.7% of the places on offer.

Price indices

The Tourist Apartment Price Index (TAPI) increased by 6.2% in July, compared to the same month of 2025, the Tourist Campsite Price Index (TCPI) by 6.3%, and the Rural Tourism Price Index (RTPI) by 1.5%.
