Statistics on Transfer of Property Rights (STPR)

June 2024. Provisional data

Main results

  • In June, 175,540 properties were registered in the property registers, 8.6% fewer than in the same month of the previous year.
  • Registered housing sales decreased by 6.1% as compared with June 2023.

The number of property transfers recorded in the property registers (from previously executed public deeds) in the month of June was 175,540, which was 8.6% less than in the same month of 2023.

As for registered property sales, the number of transfers was 95,978, with an annual decrease of 8.9%.

Sales and purchases registered in the land registers

86.9% of registered sales in June were urban properties and 13.1% were rural properties. In the case of urban sales, 60.1% were house purchases and sales.

In June, the number of sales of rustic properties decreased by 4.9% in annual rate and that of urban properties by 9.4%. Within the latter, house sales recorded an annual decrease of 6.1%.

In June, 92.7% of the housing transferred by sale and purchase were free and 7.3% were protected.

In annual terms, the number of free housing units sold by purchase decreased by 5.6% and that of protected housing units by 11.9%.

20.4% of the housing sales in June were new and 79.6% were used.

The number of new housing transactions increased by 0.9% compared to June 2023, while the number of used housing transactions decreased by 7.8%.

Results by Autonomous Communities

Aragón (8.8%), Comunidad Foral de Navarra (6.6%) and Cantabria (1.4%) recorded the highest annual rates of change in June in the total number of properties transferred.

País Vasco (-17.9%), Comunidad de Madrid (-13.1%) and Principado de Asturias (-12.4%) had the lowest annual rates.

In terms of registered property sales, the autonomous communities with the only increases were Galicia (10.0%), Región de Murcia (6.0%) and La Rioja (0.3%).

On the other hand, Canarias (-20.1%), Illes Balears (-17.6%) and Aragón (-14.2%) recorded the highest decreases.

The data for 2024 are provisional and will be reviewed when the data for the same period next year are published. All results of this operation are available on INEbase.

Nota metodológica

The Statistics on Transfer of Property Rights provides information on the number of rights over real estate transferred during the reference month, on a national level, by provinces and Autonomous Communities.

The information on transfers of property rights is obtained from the information available in the Land Registers throughout Spain, by virtue of a collaboration agreement signed in 2004 between the two institutions.
