- In August, 159,508 properties were entered in the property registers, 4.4% fewer than in the same month of the previous year.

The number of property transfers recorded in the property registers (from previously executed public deeds) in the month of August was 159,508, which was 4.4% fewer than in the same month in 2023.
As for registered property sales, the number of transfers was 92,191, with an annual decrease of 1.5%.

89.1% of registered sales in August were urban properties and 10.9% were rural properties. In the case of urban properties, 60.2% were house purchases and sales.
In August, the number of rural property sales fell by 9.2% in annual rate and the number of urban property sales by 0.5%. Within the latter, housing sales recorded an annual increase of 0.9%.
92.8% of the housing transferred by sale in December were unrestricted and 7.2% were social housing.
In annual terms, the number of transfers of free dwellings by sales and purchasing increased by 1.0%, and that of protected dwellings decreased by 0.8%.
20.1% of the housing transferred by sale and purchase in August were new and 79.9% were used.
The number of new home transactions rose by 7.6% compared with August 2023, while the number of used homes fell by 0.7%.
Aragón (9.3%) and Extremadura (6.0%) recorded the only annual rates of positive variation in the total number of transferred housing in August.
In turn, Castilla y León, Comunidad Foral de Navarra (both with -12.5%) and Cantabria (-10.4%), recorded the lowest annual rates.
Regarding the registered housing sales and purchases, the Autonomous Communities with the highest increases were Principado de Asturias (20.9%), Extremedadura (15.0%) and País Vasco (13.2%).
In turn, La Rioja (-16.4%), Aragón (-10.9%) and Comunidad Foral de Navarra (-4.7%) recorded the biggest decreases.

The information on transfers of property rights is obtained from the information available in the Land Registers throughout Spain, by virtue of a collaboration agreement signed in 2004 between the two institutions.
