NORMAL/SPECIAL SESSIONS

Guidelines for Speakers

  • Normal/special sessions will last 90 minutes each.  A maximum of five presentations will be allocated in each of them. Each session will be driven by a chair that will be in charge of introducing the speakers and their corresponding papers.
  • Authors will present a summary of their work, in a maximum time slot of 12 minutes. Questions will be taken at the end of the session, together with a discussion.

Session format

  • Instructions:
    • Check in which session number your talk is included and be there 5 minutes in advance. Timing is essential, so punctuality is required. Keeping time limit is crucial since delegates are allowed to move from one session to another.
    • A chair will be there instructing each session and controlling the time. A timekeeper will signal you at the 12-minute mark .You will be given a 2-minute warning as you near the end of your talk. Remember to watch the chair not to miss the signals.
    • The oral presentation will last 12 minutes:
      • Avoid reading out your paper.
      • Focus on key messages that serve to attract the interest of the audience.
      • Avoid presenting tables with many cells and difficult to be read.
      • Use read table type font and good text/background contrast
      • Use simple sentences; avoid jargon, highly specialized vocabulary and unfamiliar abbreviations
      • Present just a few important facts in each slide.
      • Practice the delivery of your talk several times prior to your presentation along with your slide or transparency sequence being sure to fit your talk into the time allocated to you.
      • Think about questions you might be asked about your work and be prepared with well-thought out answers, being mindful of the limited time.
      • Questions will be taken at the end of the session, together with a discussion.
SPEED TALK SESSIONS

Guidelines for Speed Talk Speakers

Day 1 (01/06/2016)
Rooms: “Columnas” & “Antonio Palacios”
Timetable: 13:10-13:55 and 17:35-18:20

Speed talks:

A new way of presenting the papers has been introduced, the so-called speed talk presentations, as an alternative to the normal sessions. Their aim is to give the authors the possibility of presenting a short summary of their work, in a maximum time slot of 4 minutes, (and a corresponding reduced number of slides).

Session format

The speed talk sessions will take place on Day 1 (01/06/2016). Two parallel sessions are scheduled at 13:10-13:55 and another two at 17:35-18:20, in rooms “Columnas” and “Antonio Palacios”. They will last a maximum of 45 minutes.

Instructions:

  • Check the room and the timetable of your speed talk and be there 4 minutes in advance. Timing is essential, so punctuality is required.
  • A chair will be there instructing each session and controlling the time.
  • The oral presentation will be very short. No discussion will be allowed.
  • Each author should deliver a rapid oral presentation
    • of maximum 4 minutes (assuming an average of 60 seconds per slide, this will require a slide set of no more than 4 slides)
    • The oral presentation (and thus the slide set) should focus on key messages and serve to attract the interest of the audience.
    • Avoid reading out your paper.
    • Avoid presenting tables with many cells and difficult to be read.
    • Use read table type font and good text/background contrast
    • Use simple sentences; avoid jargon, highly specialized vocabulary and unfamiliar abbreviations
    • Present just a few important facts in each slide.
    • Practice the delivery of your talk several times prior to your presentation along with your slide or transparency sequence being sure to fit your talk into the time allocated to you.
    • You will be given a 1-minute warning as you near the end of your talk.
    • No questions will be taken during the speed session. Once the speed talk session is finished, will audience be able to approach you with questions and comments, but outside the room.
