Concept selected: Type of stabling

Definition

This registers the average number of animals in the different types of stable, for bovines, porcines and laying hens. It shall only consider those stables used during the campaign, including those that are temporarily empty. The floors of the stables may be built with an impermeable, hard material, such as cement, or they may be fenced, that is, with metal, cement or plastic netting over a channel or trench that collects the faeces and urine of the livestock. The floor may be completely or partially netted. The net may cover the entire floor, or only a part where the animals defecate. The animals in the stables may be in fixed or free stabling. Fixed stabling is that in which the animals are permanently tied into their places, and cannot move about freely. Free stabling is that in which the animals may move about freely. For bovine livestock, the following types of stabling are considered: - Fixed stabling with a differentiated solid manure and slurry system. - Fixed stabling with a semi-liquid or liquid manure collection system. - Free stabling with a differentiated solid manure and slurry system. - Free stabling with a semi-liquid or liquid manure collection system. - Another type of stabling. Any type of stabling other than the above. For porcine livestock, the following types are considered: - Stables with partially-netted floors. - Stables with fully-netted floors. - Free stabling on a bed of straw with a collection ditch for faeces. - Another type of stable. For laying hens, the following types of installation are considered: - In straw bedding (free stabling with litter). - Battery cages with a conveyor belt for chicken manure. - Battery cages with a ditch for droppings. - Battery cages on stilts. - Another type of battery. Any type of battery other than the above. - Other installations. Any type of installation not included in the previous sections.
