The Population Continuous Statistics provide quarterly quantitative measurement of the population residing in Spain and in family dwellings, in each autonomous community, in each province and on each island (in the insular provinces), disaggregated according to basic demographic characteristics, such as sex, the year of birth, age, nationality and country of birth. This operation includes a population series from the year 1971, which is obtained from the intercensal estimates of the population up to 2021 (up to 2022 in the Population Figures operation), and from the Continuous Population Statistics operation itself from 2021. In addition, it offers the series of the number of households as of 2021, and a selection of foreign migratory flows of the most representative nationalities or countries of birth as of 2023.

The resident population data obtained in this way are used as reference population figures in all statistical operations carried out by the INE (surveys, National Accounts, indicators, etc.) and are transmitted internationally as official data on the population of Spain to all the effects.
