The total expenditure of international tourists visiting Spain in April reached 11,686 million euros, an increase of 7.4% when compared with the same month in 2025.
The average expenditure per tourist stood at 1,291 euros, with an annual increase of 2.1%. On the other hand, the average daily expenditure increased by 1.4%, up to 189 euros.

During the first four months of 2026, the total expenditure of international tourists increased by 6.7%, reaching 36,703 million euros.
The main sending countries in terms of the level of expenditure in April were the United Kingdom (with 15.9% of the total), Germany (12.5%) and France (9.5%).
Expenditure by tourists resident in the United Kingdom increased by 4.7% in the annual rate, as did those from France, by 12.7%. On the contrary, the expenditure from German tourists fell by 8.7%.
During the first four months of 2026, the United Kingdom was the country with the largest cumulative expenditure (15.1% of the total). It was followed by Germany (12.2%) and France (7.6%).
Expenditure on activities was the most important item in April, with 21.1% of the total expenditure and an increase of 9.3% compared to the same month in 2025.
The following items were expenditure on international transport (not included in package tours) and accommodation, which accounted for 20.9% and 17.6% of the total, respectively. The former increased by 5.5% and the latter by 11.4%.
56.2% of the total expenditure in April was made by tourists staying overnight at hotels, with an annual rise of 2.1%. On the other hand, expenditure on non-market accommodation increased by 10.9%.
Expenditure by tourists not travelling with a package tour increased by 7.6% in annual terms. For those who contracted a package tour, it increased by 7.0%.
In terms of the reasons for travel, tourists visiting Spain for leisure generated 82.0% of the total expenditure, with a 4.7% higher spend than in April 2025.
(*) Two main groups of accommodation are distinguished according to whether or not there has been a monetary transaction: market (paid accommodation: hotels, rental accommodation, camping, rural house and other market accommodation) or non-market (owned housing, family and friends housing and other non-market accommodation).
The Autonomous Communities of main destination with the greatest proportion of tourist expenditure in April were Cataluña (with 19.0% of the total), Andalucía (16.0%) and Comunidad de Madrid (15.7%). Annual tourist expenditure increased by 10.8% in Cataluña, by 8.3% in Andalucía and by 15.5% in Comunidad de Madrid.
During the first four months of 2026, the communities with the highest cumulative expenditure were Canarias (with 23.8% of the total), Cataluña (17.7%) and Comunidad de Madrid (16.3%).
