Consumer Price Index (CPI)
Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP)

August 2025

Main results

  • The annual variation rate of the CPI for the month of August stood at 2.7%, the same as that recorded in July.
  • The annual rate of core inflation rose one tenth of a percentage point to 2.4%.
  • The monthly variation of the general rate was 0.0%.
  • The annual rate of the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) stood at 2.7%, same as the previous month's.

The annual rate of the overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August was 2.7%, the same as that recorded the previous month.

The groups which most influenced this increase in the annual rate were:

  • Transport, whose annual rate increased by one percentage point to 1.2%. This behaviour was due mainly to falling prices in fuels and lubricants for personal vehicles, less than in August 2024. The increase was also influenced by the rise in air passenger transport, which was higher than in the same month of the previous year.

Notable among the groups with a negative contribution were:

  • Housing, whose annual rate fell by seven tenths to 6.0%, due to the steady electricity prices, compared with the rise in August of the previous year.
  • Food and non-alcoholic beverages had a rate of 2.3%, four tenths below that of the previous month. This evolution was mostly due to fruit prices falling more than in August 2024.

The annual variation rate of core inflation (the overall index excluding unprocessed food and energy products) stood at 2.4%, a figure one tenth higher than in the previous month.
