Industrial Price Index. 2021 Baseline

April 2025. Provisional data

Main results

  • The annual variation of the Industrial Price Index decreased 2.7 points in April, to 1.9%.
  • The monthly rate of industrial prices was -2.9%.

The annual rate of the general Industrial Price Index (IPRI) was 1.9% in April, 2.7 points lower than that of March.

By the economic use of the goods, among the industrial sectors that had a notably negative effect on the annual rate of the General IPRI were:

  • Energy, with an annual variation of 5.7%, 10.1 points below that of March. This behaviour comes after the fall in the prices of Electric power generation, transmission and distribution, higher than April 2024, and, to a lesser extent, than prices in Manufacture of refined petroleum products, as opposed to the rise in the same month that year.
  • Intermediate goods, whose rate fell five tenths to 0.1% due to lower prices in the Manufacture of basic precious and other non-ferrous metals and the Manufacture of basic chemicals, fertilisers and nitrogen compounds, plastics and synthetic rubber in primary forms, which rose in previous April.

On the other hand, amongst the sectors with a positive influence, worth noting are:

  • Non-durable consumer goods, with a annual variation rate of -1.3%, five tenths above that of the previous month. This evolution was largely due to the fact that the decrease in prices of the Manufacture of vegetable and animal oils and fats was lower than that of April 2024.

The annual variation rate of the general index excluding Energy remained stable at -0.1% and was 2.0 points lower than that of the general IPRI.

Data revisions and updates

The INE has today updated the IPRI data for the last three months, making the January 2024 data final. All the results of this operation are available at INEBase.

In accordance with the Commission's Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/137, the INE has begun to work on incorporating the new National Classification of Economic Activities CNAE-2025 in all its statistical operations.

In the case of the IPRI, the first publication of results with CNAE-2025 will take place in February 2028.
