New degrees, more universities
30% fewer persons took the university entrance examinations of 2004. Almost one tenth of the persons who took it did so in the modality for persons over 25 years of age. Four out of five persons passed. During the 2004/2005 academic year, nearly 1.5 million students enrolled. 60% of the students enrolled in the social science and health science options were women; whereas there was a majority of men in the scientific-technical option. The number of universities doubled from 1982 to 2004. 90% choose public universities.
