Fertility in Spain reaches its highest value since 1993
The preview data of the Vital Statistics in 2001 indicates that fertility in Spain has reached its highest value since 1993. The Short-term Fertility Indicator, which measures the average number of children per woman of childbearing age, stands at 1.24 children per woman. This is the highest value since 1993, when the indicator stood at 1.27. The increase in the number of births is due, to a certain extent, to the incorporation of foreign women of childbearing age.
