Definition

This indicator shows the trend in the percentage of grassland area included in the protected areas collected in the Spanish Inventory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity.

Calculation method

The occupation of the soil is determined from the UNFCCC classification incorporated into the Forest Map of Spain, and among the rangelands are the classes of Dispersed and Distended Tree. This information is combined with the digital cartography of the protected spaces included in the Spanish Inventory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity (Protected Natural Spaces, Natura Network 2000 or Areas protected by international instruments).

Observations

Data related to December This sheet reflects the current methodology of calculating the indicator. This indicator is under review and its methodology will be modified in the next update of the data.Disaggregation by autonomous community may not be compatible with disaggregation by type of ecosystem, so it might be convenient to do so only for the total of ecosystems, in a new subindicator.
