Non-hotel Tourist Accommodation Occupancy Survey

February 2026. Provisional data

Main results

  • Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation increased by 0.2% in February compared to the same month in 2025.
  • Overnight stays in apartments increased by 0.8% and in rural tourism by 2.4% compared to the same month in 2025. On the other hand, stays on campsites declined by 1.4% and in hostels by 4.4%.
  • The Tourist Apartment Price Index (TAPI) increased by 0.5% in February compared to the same month of 2025 and the Tourist Campsite Price Index (TCPI) decreased by 6.8%. The Rural Tourism Price Index (IPTR) fell by 0.2%.

Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation (apartments, campsites, rural tourism accommodation and hostels) exceeded 6.6 million in February, with an increase of 0.2% compared to the same month last year.

Overnight stays both by residents and non-residents increased by 0.2%. The average stay was 4.6 overnight stays per traveller.

Apartments

Overnight stays in tourist apartments increased by 0.8% in February. Overnight stays by residents decreased by 0.2% while those by non-residents increased by 1.1%.

The average stay decreased by 4.1% to 5.2 overnight stays per traveller.

In February, 34.4% of the places available were occupied, 6.6% less than in the same month in 2025. The occupancy rate by bed places at weekends was 38.0%, down by 5.5%.

Non-resident travellers accounted for 81.6% of overnight stays. The United Kingdom was the main market of origin, with 27.5% of the total.

Canarias was the preferred destination for apartments, with more than 2.3 million overnight stays and a decrease of 4.2% compared to February 2025. Canarias recorded the highest occupancy rate, with 88.6% of the apartments offered.

By tourist areas, the island of Gran Canaria was the preferred destination, with more than 810,000 overnight stays. The island of Lanzarote had the highest occupancy rate, with 91.7%. The tourist locations with the greatest number of overnight stays were San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Mogán and Arona.

Campsites

Overnight stays in camp-sites decreased by 1.4% in February compared with the same month in 2025. Overnight stays by residents increased by 2.3%, while those by non-residents declined by 2.6%.

In February, 46.4% of the available sites were occupied, an increase of 1.9% in terms of the annual rate. The weekend occupancy rate reached 47.0%, a fall of 1.8%. Non-resident travellers accounted for 75.0% of overnight stays. Germany was the main market of origin, with 39.8% of the total.

Comunitat Valenciana was the preferred destination for campsites, with more than 600 million overnight stays, an increase of 0.4% in the annual rate. It also achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 69.7% of campsites offered.

By tourist areas, the Costa Blanca was the preferred destination, with more than 313 thousand overnight stays. The region also achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 86.4%. The tourist spots with the most overnight stays were Benidorm, Mazarrón and Cabanes.

Rural tourism accommodation

Overnight stays in rural tourist accommodation rose by 2.4% in February compared with the same month in 2025. Those by residents rose by 1.9%, while those of non-residents reduced by 1.9%.

12.5% of the bed-places are occupied, 2.2% fewer than in February 2025. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 27.0%, with a year-on-year decrease of 1.3%.

Castilla y León was the preferred destination, with more than 87 thousand overnight stays, 12.8% more than in February 2025. Canarias achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 44.9%.

By tourist areas, the island of Mallorca was the preferred destination, with over 23 thousand overnight stays. The island of Gran Canaria reached the highest occupancy rate, with 52.4% of the places offered.

Hostels

Overnight stays in hostels decreased by 4.4% in February. Those of residents decreased by 18.8%, while those of non-residents increased by 8.4%.

23.1% of the bed-places are occupied, 4.2% fewer than in February 2025. The weekend occupancy rate stood at 30.1%, with a year-on-year decrease of 3.5%.

Comunidad de Madrid was the preferred destination, with more than 107 thousand overnight stays. Canarias achieved the highest occupancy rate, with 81.3% of the bed-places offered.

Price indices

The Tourist Apartment Price Index (TAPI) rose by 0.5% in February compared to the same month of 2025 and the Tourist Campsite Price Index (TCPI) decreased by 6.8%. In contrast, the Rural Tourism Price Index (RTPI) decreased by 0.2%.
