In 2023, there were 76,685 divorces, 5.7% less than the previous year. Of them, 14.9% were before a notary. Shared custody of children was granted in 48.4% of the divorce cases of couples with children, 2.9 points more than the previous year.
The Business Confidence Index increases by 1.5% in the third quarter of 2024 as compared with the second quarter. 24.1% of business establishments managers considere that the performance of their business durint the third quarter of 2024 would be favourable, while 15.2% thought it would be unfavoruable.
The number of passengers using public transport increased by 7.3% in May, as compared with the same month of 2023. The annual rate for city transport increased by 8.7% and for inter-city transport by 6.8%.
The number of mercantile companies created decreased by 7.3% in May compared to the same month in 2023. The number of dissolved companies decreased by 20.1% compared to the same month in 2023.
The annual rate of the Industrial Production Index was 0.4% in the series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, and 0.2% in the original series. The monthly change in the Industrial Production Index was -0.1% if seasonal and calendar effects are eliminated.
Spain received 9.3 million international tourists in May, 11.5% more than in the same month in 2023. In the first five months of 2024, the number of tourists increased by 13.6%.
The total expenditure of international tourists who visited Spain in May increased by 19.7% and reached 11,687 million euros. The average daily expenditure increased by 8.6% to 204 euros.
Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation increased by 9.6% in May compared to the same month in 2023. Overnight stays in tourist accommodation increased by 4.1%, those on campsites by 16.1%, rural tourism by 16.7% and those in hostels by 13.1%. The Labor Price Index rose 5.5% in 2022. The activity that registered the greatest increase was Hospitality (14.9%). Illes Balears presented the highest increase (15.3%) and País Vasco the lowest (3.2%).
The annual change in the flash estimate of the CPI stands at 3.4% in June, two tenths below than the one registered in May. The annual rate of the flash indicator of underlying inflation stands at 3.0%
The net lending of the national economy compared to the rest of the world stood at 13,085 million euros in the first quarter of 2024. Gross national income reached 366,438 million euros and gross national disposable income stood at 365,895 million euros. The savings rate of households was 6.2% of their gross disposable income in the first quarter, compared to 3.7% in the same period of 2023.
The annual rate of the IPRIX stands at -0.4%, nine tenths higher than the April figures. The annual variation of the IPRIM was 0.7%, 1.5 points higher than in the previous month.
Average household expenditure increased by 3.8% in 2023, to 32,617 euros. Average expenditure per person increased by 4.3% to 13,120 euros. The groups in which average spending per household increased the most were Restaurants and hotels, Leisure and culture, and Clothing and footwear. The only categories where it decreased were Communications and Alcoholic beverages and tobacco.
The number of trips by residents of Spain increased by 15.0% in the first quarter of 2024 up to 40.6 million. Total expenditure increased by 25.4%, and exceeded 11,678 million euros. AndalucÍa, Cataluña and Comunitat Valenciana were the main destinations.
The annual rate of the General Retail Trade Index at constant prices stood at 0.2% in the seasonal and calendar adjusted series. The monthly variation in retail sales at constant prices was -0.6% after seasonal and calendar adjustment. Employment in retail trade increased by 1.7% in annual rate.
In 2023, the leading cause of death was tumours, which accounted for 26.6% of the total number of deaths. Reported deaths due to diseases of the circulatory system decreased by 5.3% compared to 2022, ranking as the second most frequent cause of death, with 26.5% of the total. In addition, deaths due to COVID-19 decreased by 75.1% compared to 2022 and accounted for 1.8% of all deaths.
The value of the sales of products of the manufacturing industry decreased 0.4% in 2023. The sector with the highest increase in sales was Motor vehicles (14.8%). On the other hand, the highest decrease was recorded for Coke ovens and petroleum refining (-20.9%). The product with the highest sales value was diesel, with 21.5 billion euros, 27.0% less than in 2022.
The annual rate of the Business Turnover Index stood at 2.5% in the series corrected for seasonal and calendar effects and at 7.8% in the original. The ICNE recorded a monthly rate of 4.5% without seasonal and calendar effects.
In terms of volume, the GDP registered a variation of 0.8% in the first quarter compared with the previous quarter. This rate was one tenth higher than that of the fourth quarter of 2023. Year-on-year GDP variation was 2.5%, compared to 2.1% in the previous quarter . Domestic demand contributed by 2.3 points and external demand by 0.2 points.
The annual variation of the Industrial Price Index increased by 2.1 points in May to -4.6%. The monthly rate of industrial prices was 0.8%.

If current demographic trends were maintained, Spain would gain more than five million inhabitants in the next 15 years and almost six million by 2074. The percentage of the population aged 65 and over, which currently stands at 20.4% of the total, would reach a maximum of 30.5% around 2055.
The number of households in Spain would grow by more than 3.7 million in the next 15 years if current demographic trends continue. In 2039 there would be 7.7 million single-person households, or 33.5% of the total. The number of households would increase in all communities.
Overnight stays in hotel establishments increased a 11.1 % in May, compared to the same month of 2023. The Hotel Price Index rose 8.1% in annual rate. Hotels billed 111.7 euros on average per occupied room, 9.2% more than the same month of the previous year.
4.4% of people who in 2023 were between 50 and 64 years old received some retirement pension. Among the population aged 65 to 74 years, the percentage reached 67.2%.

In March, 166,239 properties were registered in the property registers, 19.6% less than in the same month of the previous year. Registered housing sales and purchases increased by 19.3% compared to March 2023.

The average annual salary was 26,948.87 euros per worker in 2022, 4.1% higher than the previous year. That for women was 24,359.82 euros and that for men was 29,381.84. The annual salary of Directors and managers (59,478.63 euros) was 120.7% higher than the average. That of unskilled workers in services was 14,665.40 euros, 45.6% lower than the average. University graduates received an annual salary of 44,672.13 euros, 65.8% higher than the average salary. For its part, that of workers with less than a primary degree was 17,333.57 euros, 35.7% lower than the average.
The number of mortgages constituted on dwellings recorded in the land registries in April was 34,264, 28.0% more in the annual rate. The average amount of mortgages on dwellings increased by 1.5%, standing at 139,328 euros. The average interest rate on new mortgages on dwellings was 3.38%.

The annual variation of the Services Sector Price Index decreased 1.2 points in the first quarter of 2024, to 2.4%. The quarterly rate of service prices was 0.3%. The INE publishes today the first Price Index of the Services Sector based on 2021.
The labour cost of companies increased to 3.9% compared to the same period of the previous year and stood at 3,009.87 euros per worker per month. The wage cost increased by 3.7%. With calendar-adjusted and deseasonalised results, the labour cost per worker increased by 3.9% annually and 1.0% quarterly. The number of vacancies was 149,962 this quarter.
In 2023, the number of foreign residents who acquired Spanish nationality increased by 32.3% to 240,208. The most frequent nationalities of origin were Morocco (54,027), Venezuela (30,154) and Colombia (18,738).
The annual variation rate of the May CPI stood at 3.6%, three tenths above that recorded in April. The annual rate of core inflation increased by one tenth, to 3.0%. The monthly variation in the general rate was 0.3%.
