Description
The indicator provides information on the different sources from which water is abstracted. Water abstraction consists of extracting and/or gathering water from nature and storing it for use. It includes reservoir services and conveyance through main channels and primary pipelines. A distinction is made between surface water abstraction and groundwater abstraction, which is carried out through boreholes and drillings, as well as seawater and transitional waters, which are desalinated before use.
Calculation method

$$\frac{\textit{Water abstraction volume (by type of water abstraction)}}{\textit{Total water abstraction volume}} \cdot 100$$

Unit of measure
  • Thousands of cubic metres
  • Percentage
