Description
Greenhouse gas emissions attributed to the final demand (consumption and investment) of Spain or the EU, from a consumption-based perspective
Calculation method
$$\textit{PPECGEI}^{t}=\frac{\textit{ECGEI}^{t}}{\textit{P}^{t}} $$
,where \(ECGEI\) represents the total greenhouse gas emissions attributed to the final demand (final consumption and investment) of resident economic units in year t, and \(Pt\) is the population on 1 July of year t..
Unit of measure
Tonnes of CO2 equivalent per capita

Observations
Using multiregional input-output (MRIO) models incorporating environmental extensions. These models integrate information from two main datasets:
1) FIGARO inter-country supply and use tables, a satellite framework of national accounts that describes the production and consumption activities of an economy.
2) Air emissions accounts, which report greenhouse gas emissions by country, economic activity, and type of gas.
This approach allows for the calculation of emissions throughout the entire production chain of a product. Emissions by gas type are converted into carbon dioxide equivalent (CO¿e) by multiplying the mass of each gas by its global warming potential (GWP), following the AR5 (Fifth Assessment Report) values.
