The INE's household or individual surveys are as follows:

  • EADA. Survey on adult population participation in learning activities.
    • Access to fill out the questionnaire.

      Objective: The main objective of the survey is to measure the participation of the adult population (aged 18-69) in activities undertaken with the intention of learning or acquiring knowledge or skills.

      Variables studied: social characteristics (age, sex, household in which they live, nationality, etc.), economic characteristics (professional situation, occupation, etc.) and the educational background of the interviewees.

      Main characteristics of the research: around 34,000 people will be investigated. The interviews will be conducted online (where the informant accesses with a password to answer the questionnaire), by telephone (where the interview is conducted by an agent) or by personal visit (an agent goes to the home and conducts the interview with a portable device).

      At the beginning of the survey, a letter will be sent to the persons selected, informing them of the survey, access codes for online completion, as well as the free information telephone number 900, where they may request additional information, resolve any difficulties that may arise in completing the questionnaire, or arrange a visit with the interviewer. In addition, for your security and to guarantee that it is the INE who is contacting you, the letter will contain an identification code that the respondent may request when receiving a call in order to verify that it is the INE who is calling.

  • ECEPOV. Survey of essential characteristics of the population and dwellings 2021.
    • Objective: The main objective of the survey is to obtain information on the socio-demographic characteristics of the population, living arrangements and dwellings.

      Variables studied: Variables on the dwelling: tenancy regime, useful area, number of rooms, facilities, etc. Variables on the building: number of floors, year of construction, accessibility, facilities, etc.

      On the other hand, different variables of each of the persons residing in the dwelling are studied. Demographic variables such as sex, date of birth, place of birth, marital status, etc. The relationship between the different members of the household is also collected. Social variables are also studied, such as level of studies, professional situation, knowledge of languages, care of dependent persons, etc.

      Main characteristics of the research: Around 300,000 households will be surveyed between April 2021 and November 2021. The survey is structured in two phases. In the first phase, the survey can be completed online (where the respondent accesses the survey with a password to answer the questionnaire), by telephone (where the interview is conducted by an agent), or by post (the respondent completes the questionnaire on paper). In the second phase, the interview is carried out by a personal visit of an agent to the household, the interview is conducted with a portable device.

      In each phase, a letter will be sent with information regarding the survey, access codes for online completion, as well as the free information telephone number 900, where you may request additional information, resolve any difficulties that may arise in completing the questionnaire, or arrange an appointment with the interviewer.   • ECH. Continuous Household Survey
    • Objective: to obtain annual statistics on population, households and dwellings with information on basic variables on an Autonomous Community and Province level, referring to 1 January of each year.

      Variables studied: demographic characteristics such as sex, date of birth, marital status, place of birth, place of birth of the father and mother, nationality, and, where applicable, date of last arrival in Spain, and date of acquisition of Spanish nationality. Household-related variables (kinship relations and total number of household members). Social variables, such as level of studies, relationship with the activity and professional situation. Variables related to the dwelling: classification of the dwelling as main dwelling, non-main secondary or empty, type of tenancy regime, useful area, number of rooms as well as the type of building where it is located...

      Main characteristics of the research: every quarter, letters are sent to some 25,000 postal addresses requesting collaboration via the Internet. Subsequent mailings are then sent to the units that have not yet completed the questionnaire, so that the survey is organised in several consecutive phases, with the questionnaires being collected by different methods depending on the informant's possibilities: Internet, postal mail, telephone and personal visit with a portable device.

      There is a 900 number available to informants, which is provided in each of the letters sent to the selected units, through which they can request more information on the survey and resolve any difficulties that may arise in the completion of the questionnaires.

  • LCS. Living Conditions Survey
    • Objective: to obtain data on household income, material deprivation and subjective poverty for the study of poverty, inequality and social exclusion.

      Variables studied: household income by source, arrears, non-monetary indicators of deprivation, housing conditions, housing costs, activity, occupation, marital status, nationality, education, health, etc.

      Main characteristics of the research: around 30,000 households are interviewed each year. One household remains in the sample for four consecutive years.

      Prior to each interview, an information letter is sent to the household with a 900 number where additional information can be requested or an appointment can be made with the interviewer.

      Interviews are conducted through a call or visit by an interviewer who uses a computer or tablet to ask the questions and record the respondents' answers. The survey can also be completed online.

      A code number is included in the pre-briefing letter which the respondent can request when receiving the call in order to verify that he/she is being called on behalf of the NSO.

      All the results of the Living Conditions Survey are available free of charge on the INE website.

  • AGE. Survey on disability, personal autonomy and situations of dependency.
    • Objective: The main objective of the Survey on Disability, Personal Autonomy and Dependency Situations is to provide information on persons with a disability, limitation or dependency situation, as well as on different related aspects, such as their general state of health or their socio-economic situation.

      Variables studied: Information is collected on basic household characteristics and socio-demographic characteristics of the persons resident therein, as well as on different types of disabilities or limitations that they have. The impairment of origin of the disability and various related aspects are also studied, such as the availability or need for technical or personal aids, accessibility, social benefits, education, employment, personal relationships, social environment, care and personal assistance, etc., of the persons with disabilities and the general state of health of the main carer.

      Main characteristics of the research: Around 110,000 households will be surveyed during the months between August 2020 and September 2021. The survey is structured in two phases. The first phase takes place between August 2020 and January 2021. The interview can be conducted online (the respondent completes the questionnaire himself/herself), by telephone (an agent conducts the interview with the respondent) or by post (the respondent completes the questionnaire on paper). In the second phase, which runs from April 2021 to September 2021, the survey is conducted by telephone (an officer conducts the interview with the respondent) or by a personal visit of an officer with a handheld device. In each phase, prior to the interview, an information letter is sent to the household with a free 900 number, where additional information can be requested or an appointment with the interviewer can be arranged. In addition, this information letter includes an identification code that the respondent can request when he/she receives the call, in order to verify that he/she is being called on behalf of the INE.

      All the results of the 2020 Survey on Disability, Personal Autonomy and Situations of Dependency will be made available to the public free of charge on the INE website.

  • EESE. European Health Survey in Spain
    • Objective: The general objective of the EESE 2019 is to provide information on the health of the Spanish population in a harmonised and comparable manner at the European level in order to plan and evaluate health-related actions.

      Variables studied: Information is collected on health status, chronic or long-term illnesses, health-related quality of life, limitations in performing activities of daily living, access to and use of health services, consumption of medicines, preventive practices, unmet health care needs, physical characteristics, tobacco and alcohol consumption, physical exercise, diet, emotional and personal support and care of others.

      Main characteristics of the research: Around 37,500 households will be visited between July 2019 and July 2020. In all of them, the interview consists of a series of questions on general household information, followed by the selection of a person aged 15 or over to answer the individual questionnaire.

      interviews are carried out using a CAPI system (computer-assisted personal interview). Prior to the interview, an informative letter is sent to the dwelling with a 900 number in which additional information may be requested or an appointment may be arranged with the interviewer.

      The informative letter prior to the telephone call includes a numerical code that the respondent may request when receiving the interviewer's call, in order to verify that he/she is being interviewed on behalf of the INE.

  • EGHE. Household Expenditure on Education Survey
    • Objective: To obtain information on household expenditure on education, such as tuition fees, classes, extracurricular activities, complementary services, textbooks, etc

      Variables studied: This survey obtains information on household expenditure on different educational goods and services.

      The main variables investigated in terms of educational services are expenditure on tuition, school classes, complementary services, extracurricular activities,...

      In terms of educational goods, expenditure on textbooks, uniforms, stationery, computer products, etc. is investigated.

      Main characteristics of the research: Around 3,500 households will be surveyed during the first half of 2020. The sample is drawn from households participating in the household budget survey in 2017, 2018 and 2019 that have reported some education-related expenditure in the survey, as well as households with any member under 25 years of age.

      All selected households are sent a letter of introduction to the survey, where they are provided with the access codes to the INE survey completion portal.

      Households that do not complete the survey via the INE portal will receive a telephone call to complete the survey via the INE portal.

  • EGATUR. Tourism Expenditure Survey
    • Objective: to find out the tourist expenditure of foreign visitors on their departure from Spain.

      Variables studied: Tourism expenditure of non-resident visitors on their trips to Spain by type of entry, nationality, reason for the trip, tourist destination, loyalty, Internet use.

      Main characteristics of the research: 2015. Previously produced by the Institute of Tourism Studies (since 1996).

  • EILU. Labour market insertion survey of university graduates
    • Objective: The main objective of the 2019 Labour Market Insertion Survey of University Graduates (EILU 2019) is to provide information on the employment situation of university graduates (including first and second cycle graduates) and university master's degree graduates, as well as on the different aspects of their labour market insertion process.

      Variables studied: Information is collected on the formal and complementary training received by the selected person, aspects relating to their mobility, their current employment situation and their employment history.

      Main characteristics of the research: Around 57,000 people will be investigated during the months between July 2019 and November 2019. The interviews can be conducted online (the informant fills in the questionnaire himself/herself) or by telephone (an agent conducts the interview with the informant). Prior to the interview, the person is sent an information letter with a free 900 number, where additional information can be requested or an appointment can be made with the interviewer. In addition, this information letter includes a code that the informant can request when receiving the call in order to verify that he/she is being called from the INE.

      In 2014 was the first edition of this survey and in 2019 the second edition will take place. All the results of the 2019 University Graduates Labour Market Insertion Survey will be made available to the public free of charge on the INE website.

  • LFS. Labour Force Survey
    • Objective: to obtain data on the labour force and its various categories (employed, unemployed), as well as on the population outside the labour market (inactive).

      Variables studied: population according to sex, age, marital status, nationality, studies, relationship with the activity. The active population is also classified according to branch of activity, occupation, economic sector, professional situation,..... Employed persons are further classified according to hours worked, working conditions,.... Unemployed persons are further classified according to time and form of job search,.... Inactive persons are further classified according to type of inactivity, previous employment,...

      Main characteristics of the research: around 70,000 dwellings are interviewed each quarter. One dwelling remains in the sample for six consecutive quarters.

      Prior to each interview, an information letter is sent to the household with a 900 number where additional information can be requested or an appointment can be made with the interviewer.

      The first interview is conducted by an interviewer visiting the dwelling and using a laptop computer to ask the questions and record the respondents' answers. The rest of the interviews are conducted by telephone.

      A code number is included in the pre-information letter which the respondent can request when receiving the call in order to verify that he/she is being called from the NSI.

      In 2014 was the first edition of this survey and in 2019 the second edition will take place. All the results of the 2019 Labour Force Survey are available free of charge on the INE website.

  • HBS. Household Budget Survey
    • Objective: The HBS is a statistical operation designed with the fundamental objective of obtaining information for the study and monitoring of household expenditure. Its data is also used to calculate the weightings of the different items that make up the Consumer Price Index, as well as to estimate private consumption in the National Accounts and to obtain social indicators in different fields such as nutrition, household equipment, etc.

      Variables studied: population according to sex, age, marital status, nationality, studies, relationship with the activity and income. In addition, both monetary and non-monetary expenses of a monthly, quarterly, annual nature, expenses for each of the goods or services that are paid for by periodic receipts and some characteristics of the dwelling are studied.

      Main characteristics of the research: around 37,000 householdsare interviewed each year. Each household in the sample will collaborate for one week, two consecutive years

      Prior to each interview, an information letter is sent to the household with a 900 number where additional information can be requested or an appointment can be made with the interviewer.

      The interviewer makes several phone calls and visits to the household throughout the reference week to collect through different questionnaires the expenditures made in different periods.

  • RTS. Resident Tourism Survey
    • Objective: to provide monthly, quarterly and annual estimates of the main characteristics of the trips made by the resident population in Spain.

      Variables studied: trips made by the population resident in Spain according to destination, duration, reason, accommodation, means of transport, expenditure, socio-demographic characteristics of the travellers, etc.

      Main characteristics of the research: around 13,000 dwellings are interviewed each month, in each of which one person is selected to provide the information. A dwelling remains in the sample for a year and a half, during which time it makes six collaborations.

      Interviews are conducted by telephone and internet; only in the first collaboration, if telephone or internet contact is not achieved, an interviewer will visit the dwelling to conduct the survey in person using a laptop computer. The collection of this survey is partially carried out through a service contract with an external company.

      Prior to each interview, an informative letter is sent to the dwelling with a 900 number in which additional information may be requested or an appointment may be made to carry out the survey. Said informative letter includes a code that the informant may request when he/she receives the call, in order to verify that he/she is being called from the INE.

  • FRONTUR. Tourist movements at the border
    • Objective: to provide monthly and annual estimates of the number of non-resident visitors to Spain (tourists and excursionists), as well as the main characteristics of the trips they make (access route, destination, country of residence, motive, form of organisation...).

      Variables studied: tourists, excursionists, country of residence, means of transport used, forms of organisation, type of accommodation, purpose and length of stay.

  • ICT-H. Survey on equipment and use of information and communication technologies in households.
    • Objective: Information is collected on the various information and communication technology products in Spanish households as well as the uses that Spaniards make of these products, the Internet and e-commerce. Special attention is paid to children's use of technology.

      Variables studied:

      • For persons: persons and children who have used a computer in the last 3 months, persons and children who have used the Internet in the last 3 months, persons who have shopped on the Internet, persons who use a mobile phone. Classified according to sex, age, nationality, autonomous community, household income,...
      • For dwellings: dwellings with computer, dwellings with Internet connection, availability of broadband connection, dwellings with landline telephone, dwellings with mobile telephone,...

      Main characteristics of the research: an annual survey is carried out in the first four months of the year. Around 30,000 dwellings are interviewed each year. One dwelling remains in the sample for four consecutive waves.
